A chandlery on Wharf Street
Harbor & Pine opened in 2011 in a brick chandlery built in the 1890s, a block from the Portland waterfront. The Farrell family bought the building when it stood empty, kept the pine beams and the harbor windows, and turned it into an 18-room hotel.
We stayed small on purpose. Eighteen rooms means the front desk knows your name by the second morning, the breakfast room never has a line, and the person who books your ferry is the person who checked you in.
Almost everything in the building comes from Maine: the coffee, the cider at dock hour, the blankets on the beds, and the art on the walls. When you ask where to eat, you get an honest answer, not a list of places that pay us.
